Zuiderzeemuseum
In 1932 the Afsluitdijk (Barrier Dam) closed off the Zuider Zee and the new inland sea acquired the name IJsselmeer. The vivid culture of the former Zuider Zee area survives in the varied collection of objects and premises of the Zuiderzee Museum. In addition, the Museum displays present-day expressions of art and culture that capitalize on the rich traditions from the area.
Indoor Museum
In the temporary exhibitions, the Zuiderzee Museum displays how Dutch traditions and history are reflected in present-day Dutch forms of art, culture, heritage and design.
Children
There is more than enough for children to do in the Museum Park and in the Museum itself: they can make clog boats, learn to write with an old-fashioned dip pen in a classroom dating from 1930, or dress up in Old Dutch costume. They can also follow treasure hunts, walk on stilts, and ride hobby horses. In addition, the Museum offers extra children’s activities during all school holidays.
Groups
The Zuiderzee Museum is an ideal location for a company outing, a marriage, a family day out, a reception or a business event. Please consult our website for the arrangements and extensive possibilities.
