Beach, sea and dunes...
The name Heart of North Holland already says enough about the location: in the centre of the versatile province of North Holland, surrounded by water. On one side the North Sea, with its sandy beaches and dunes, and on the other the expansive IJsselmeer with its charming little seashell beaches.
The villages of Bergen aan Zee, Castricum aan Zee, Egmond aan Zee and Camperduin are all located directly on the North Sea coastline. Castricum and Camperduin are tranquil villages where you can have fun frolicking on the beach with plenty of space around you. There is a pleasant hustle and bustle in Bergen aan Zee and Egmond aan Zee. Did you forget your sunhat or bikini? No worries! There are plenty of small shops where you are sure to find what you are looking for. And those who prefer to stay indoors need not fear: there are plenty of lovely little restaurants and beach pavilions where you can enjoy dishes including fresh fish from the North Sea.
The disabled
Beaches in the Heart of North Holland are perfectly accessible for the disabled. Some resorts even provide beach wheelchairs for hire or on loan. Enjoy the beach without getting sand between your toes
In the Heart of North Holland you can also go for a dip in freshwater as well as salt water. The IJsselmeer is perfect for a day of water sports or swimming. If you follow the Circular Dike, which runs around the IJsselmeer, you will see small beaches dotted here and there that the locals refer to as "seashell beaches". Have a dip in the IJsselmeer for a change!
